Fun and original
My wife and I just saw this film at its 'World Premiere'. We knew ahead of time that it was a low budget production but were pleasantly surprised at just how good a film this is. Plenty of laughs, an original plot, funny characters - all you could want in a simple yet full length film. Shot in digital format (rather than actual 'film') it covers many subjects (celebrity, illiteracy, school angst) with a deftness that makes it hard to believe that this is a first effort of both writing and direction for JJ Garvine. Just light-hearted, straightforward fun. I look forward to seeing JJ's next one.
"13th Grade"--Graduated Top in its Class
"13th Grade" is a full-length independent film costing only $8000 to produce that has the look of a film that might have cost a thousand or maybe even ten thousand times as much. JJ Garvine wrote and directed a funny and engaging story that brings back memories for all former high school students, and horrifies all those currently waiting for that final day of school...graduation! Garvine, a resident of Delaware, chose local schools and sites around Newark, Delaware to film, which not only saved on production costs, but provided a rich background for his story. The talented cast includes Dustin Diamond from "Saved by the Bell" in a surprising role, and Gervase Peterson from "Survivor," who shows that he can act and not just be a reality show has-been. Run, do not walk, to check out "13th Grade" at your local theatre that shows independent films, or check out the DVD as soon as possible. Everyone involved in this production should get an "A" for effort.
