Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies (2016) Reviews

  • Guilty pleasure for a native horror fan

    redcat_852017-01-18

OK, maybe I am a little biased, because I am from Austria (hello Rainhard Fendrich...), but I don't get the negative reviews. So I would like to raise the attention to an overlooked point. This is a horror comedy and I fear that either the dubbed version lost a lot of the funny moments or maybe the sense of this typical Austrians humor wasn't broad enough. E.g. the drinking scene with the Russian investor: If you know a little bit about the country's history AND the actual consumption of alcohol it is perfectly set up. So if you don't get the laughs it leaves you with a very simple story and solid handmade SFXs. For me it's the perfect mix of humor, gore, fun and nice ideas. I hope for more genre movies (action, thrillers, horror) made in Austria.

  • A great horror/comedy fusion

How often have you really seen comedy and horror work well together? Probably not too often but "Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies" does a great job at fusing these two categories. This lighthearted, zombie filled film brings together every aspect of horror films and comedies to make it enjoyable for everyone to watch. When three teens are stranded on the Austrian Alps during a snowboarding trip, you don't think many bad things could happen. But add a science experiment gone wrong, and a mountain full of zombies to the equation and then you have real mayhem. Luckily, the humor throughout keeps the spirits high and hopeful for an escape from this hellish location. The script has cleverly written jokes that kept me laughing and a self-aware cast that notably mentions they are in some type of "zombie movie" to the audience. I noticed an 80's vibe present that also helps to give off a quirky feel. But not to worry for all the horror lovers. There is an intense fight scene between the zombies and snowboarders that still had me hiding my eyes (mostly because I'm squeamish). If you can think of any way to kill a zombie with a snowboard, it is done in this movie and probably more. Whether there is a head being cut off or in half, a body severed, or a zombie being shot to death you will have enough gore to last you a lifetime. Basically, the special effects did not disappoint and the makeup helps make some of the most realistic looking zombies. This ZomCom is a great flick that I really enjoyed. It is perfect for a movie night and deserving of any comedy or zombie lovers time. This spoofy film does not disappoint and should be added to everyone's movie watch list.

Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies is an exhilarating, fast paced gore-fest that plays with the troupes of a classic genre and elevates them to delightful, satirical bliss. The classic set up all horror fans love are here! The director playfully twists them into an entertaining, high wire act of comedy-horror that real horror film fans will surely appreciate. The film is about a cocky ski star who must step up to do what's right when a zombie outbreak begins in the Austrian Alps (no thanks to a well meaning Austrian scientist) and simultaneously tries to win his strong willed girlfriend back. Director Dominik Hartl wisely takes advantage of his snowy locations with the assistance of his cinematographer, using anamorphic lenses to add gorgeous scope to his setting with care that aspiring cinematographers will surely take copious notes of. The actors have A-game with their willingness to take every situation their characters experience with levity and appreciated focus. This film has some surprising delights that range from classical music appreciating dancing zombies (reminiscent of Polanski's The Fearless Vampire Killers) to the chic and sleek snowboarding of Steve (Laurie Calvert) that will having you cheering for the heroes and excited for the winter olympics! I thought this was a great addition to my ever expanding film collection. Any REAL fans of cult and retro horror films looking for something new and fresh with incredible visuals, hilarious fast paced action, and of course, hungry Austrian zombies should definitely check this one out. It's killer!

Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies delivers on exactly what its name suggests - an excellent addition to the purely-for-entertainment genre of zombie-comedy that spawned out of the horror hybrid style that embodied the Evil Dead franchise and film spoofs like Shaun of the Dead. Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies follows its predecessors in bringing grotesque violence scenes and subtle thrills together that are pocketed with slap stick humor to make for a bloody good time. To be fair, this film was never attempting to be engaging in a serious manner and allows the laughs to soak in all along the way. The story follows a group of young snowboarders in the midst of a video shoot on the Austrian Alps. However, when Steve pulls a reckless prank, fellow snowboarders Josh and girlfriend, Branka, are inevitably stranded with no way down. As Steve tries to amend his relationship with Branka at the mountain's sole ski inn, the owners attempt to profiteer his slopes has unknowingly infected his lodgers leading to the longest and bloodiest night of the year for the sole survivors. Thanks to a diverse cast, the talented young actors save Lederhosen Zombies from what might become a dull and monotonous plot. RedBull rider Marc Swoboda also lends his skills to spice things up and utilizing talent that worked on The Force Awakens and Mockingjay Part 2 creates a spirited indie effort that stands above your generic zombie flick.

  • Not your average zom-com

When an experiment goes unexpectedly wrong, it leads to an all out zombie invasion on top of the beautiful snowy Austrian Alps. Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies puts a different twist on my expectations of a typical zom com. Its funny, thrilling and makes you want to keep watching to find out who gets devoured next. It's gory as you might have expected from the trailer but not as terrifying as some other zombie movies. The zombie fighting scenes were definitely gory and gruesome but the way the characters fought for survival with their snowboarding stunts and cutting-edge tricks was extremely entertaining to watch. I also really liked that there was a romantic aspect in this movie that you normally don't see in most zombie flicks. The relationship between the two main characters made the movie appear more real to me. I loved how they put their differences aside to battle the blood hungry zombies together. Overall, I thought it was a great film and would recommend if you're an indie horror fan.
