Bhouri (2016) Reviews
Very rare go in indie and sub-textual styled storytelling...and this one is surely the best in its league of rustic and regional Indian films...
It is very sad to see that these types of films don't get the recognition nor the importance either for media or stars of Bollywood, so as a result, they suffer and die a death predestined but then it couldn't get away from cine-lovers's eyes. During its initial release, i couldn't find one hall showing this film and dejectedly, i wanted it to surface somewhere and then i found it yesterday in the movie CD\DVD stores and bought it instantly, because from the trailers i saw back then, i knew i was missing a great and under-appreciated film. And, to my expectations, it was far more better than that and it was all worthy. The film stars Raghuvir Yadav (as always as forever impressive and gritty), Masha Paur (very considerable debut acting for a lady who comes from United Kingdom and Hindi isn't her first language) and main roles as a couple who have been tortured and harassed by their village (mostly males) to give in to have their share of sex but they don't bulge down and as result, their world come crashing down resulting to horrific outcomes both for them and for the people around them who gets a sort of poetic justice. Not much, i will say because it will kill the desire to watch such a beautiful yet realist and inevitable film so go and watch this now as the acts of all will impress you and the story is not written as clichéd but a well crafted tale of loss, revenge and respect. It best comes in the way, when it crawls out slowly towards the path we couldn't make to see. And, if you have loved Salaam Bombay, Pather Panchali, Bicycle Thieves, Do Bigha Zamin, Manchester by the Sea, and seen Parched or any type of films giving a similar feel, then go and catch this shooting star, because some SRK, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan or Karan Johar won't tell you to go and watch this film. It's ain't Baahubali, but enough to give you Baahubali bumps.
Imagine you stumbled into a diamond, just because you happened to look in the gutter ...
I will say no more... its a serious movie - find that mood but you will not regret.
Love Bhouri
This is not bahabuli that's for sure. But for low budget film Bhouri cut straight to my heart. The sad thing is people dont realize that sexual Harassment in villages such as this one is real. India has a very high rate of women suicide the second highest in the world. For reasons as those in this film. If you take the time to see Bhouri you will see it doesn't cut corners and it has no fiction aside from the charecters.
Intense in dealing with women in a patriarchal world
Gripping from start to finish. No dull parts, journey shows how women are treated as objects by all male relations and non relations. She is seen as weak and totally dependant on the males to provide, however an interesting viewpoint shows how men are slaves to their desires and need constant gratification from women and how their ego is hurt when their advances are rejected .
Offbeat but good
Offbeat but good. . Beautiful direction along with the storyline. . Language though was an issue as all actors had varied accents despite shown to be living in same village for years. .
