• Strong romantic horror - worth discovering

  Landing squarely in the "intellectual horror" sub-genre of movies like The Babadook, Let the Right One In and It Follows, Brides to Be invites us into the lives of the characters – all their idiosyncrasies and bruised psyches – before heating up the horror. Brides to Be follows Jenna (Carollani Sandberg) and Robin (Angela DiMarco) to a remote lodge in the woods where they plan to marry the next day. Along with Nate, the bestower of quirky wisdom played brilliantly by Jesse Lee Keeter, and a creepy caretaker, they are alone in the Lodge. Or so they think. Watching Angela DiMarco's psychological crumble into desperation and Carollani Sandberg's nuanced intensity seals it. Brides to Be is one of the best horror movies in years.

• Such a good follow up to Together Forever.

  This film was the sequel to Jenna and Robin's first appearance together in the short Together Forever. It is a complete departure from the original short, but only in the best of ways. The short was a view into a moment in a relationship, but Brides is a closer look at a long term lesbian relationship and what that entails. I never would have thought that a thriller would come from the short, but oh my god am I glad that it did. The story is so well told and from the first scene, you know that you're in for a roller-coaster of emotions. This was amazing and I can't wait to watch over and over! The lesbian thriller exists and it's best form is here!

• Shot on video lesbian romance horror

  I suppose "lesbians in a haunted house" would be a more exploitative title to sell this shot-on-video horror non-starter. The plot is about a couple of young women who are due to be married who end up in a creepy location in which weird stuff is going on. There's a lesbian sex scene, lots of unconvincing performances, and a whole bunch of minor events which eventually build to a violent climax. I had two major problems with this one: none of the characters are remotely likable, and the characters never really sell the story to the viewer all that well.
