Novella McClure is like most struggling actresses in Los Angeles: she's in her early 30s, her fake name sounded cooler ten years ago, and she hasn't landed a role in three years. To top it all off, she's developed a disturbing habit of eating her own flesh. Novella desperately tries to hide her strange condition from her motherly landlord, Eesha, and somewhat psychopathic best friend, Candice, but her body and mind continue to deteriorate in the depressing world of failed auditions and sketchy night clubs. Can a romantic relationship with her psychiatrist prevent her from self destruction? Or will her fatal habit continue to eat away at her?

Eat (2014) Reviews

  • Wow! Just wow!

Man, I have seen a lot of gory and bizarre films but "Eat" takes the bloody cake! Yes, the acting wouldn't make Meryl Streep jealous, but that matters very little because the subject matter is so damn dark. It's scary when you think about it - someone eating themselves into oblivion. I don't think I've ever seen another film like this, so its originality is what causes me to rate it so high. This film would make an excellent study for students of abnormal psychology; really, it should probably be in the curriculum of universities and colleges worldwide. You wouldn't even need an unrated or uncut version of this movie. It's dark as hell from beginning to end. Interestingly, the acting was pretty weak in the start, but as the movie got more and more deranged, the acting improved. "Eat", despite its flaws, is a must-see for all fans of extreme horror. If you can handle "Inside" or "Martyrs" or anything Takashi Miike dishes out, you can handle this.

I just finished watching this movie 2 minutes ago and i came straight here to make this review.. It really makes me wide awake even when i watch it rather tired.. The actress and actors are well chosen for their roles.. Really got my full attention watching. Scenes captured in very detailed manner and captured my feelings too. The music and soundtrack fits in really good.. I love it so much.. I could also feel every emotion of the main lead (Novella McClure) in the movie. Kind of feel sorry for her when she encounter problems and stressed out. Its rather extreme the things she do to vent out her stress.. Apart from that she is quite pretty and attractive lady. Love the strong gore.. I'm not sure how others rate this movie and i don't care, its a 9/10 for me. But i still give 10/10 to show my appreciation for this movie. Well done to all the people who are involve in making this film. I love this movie so much.

The first full feature by director Jimmy Weber and it's one that will stick to your mind. the opening sequence is great, the editing and the graphics, it immediately got my attention. Slowly you get into the story and the first minutes nothing really is going on. Except for Novella (Meggie Maddock) who got some trouble with her thumb. It's bleeding. After going through so many auditions she's fed up and starts sucking her thumb and trouble comes in. I can understand that some horror geeks won't going to like this flick because it do takes a while before the nastiness comes in. It's really going into the character of Novella and seeing how she's going on with her nasty habits of biting. Being used and abused (porn industry) she's becoming sick doesn't admit it and falls in love with her schrink. Here and there you do get rewarded with gore. Overall I found it okay but to say it's one for the gorehounds no therefore I can't agree. This one just goes deep into the mind of Novella. It will stick to your mind, that I can tell. Gore 2,5/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 4/5 Story 3/5 Comedy 0/5

WOW! This movie was just something else. Its a very well put together flick. You saw both the main characters spiral into lunacy. I got the feeling at end that her "friend" was the cause of all the problems she was having, like she said everyone in her life was using her. Her friend controlled her life and its kinda like what's that saying, a dog will bit his leg off to get free of his chains. ( that's the way I remember it lmao!) So that's what I am taking from this movie. Now the ending, I have different ideas on that but movies rarely have such good endings that I won't blow it up. This movie was very different than any that I've seen with this level of gore. The story and acting was well done . Its not many movies that make me turn my head to avoid the scene but the visuals are just a tad too brutal(I can't believe I said that!) It gets really disgusting at parts, I am not gonna lie to you but its, how can I put this, not tacky gore. Its just part of story, can you get my meaning? It really was a good flick, it was just a random viewing which I thought would be super stupid based on the summary but it worked. Give it a watch based on the summary itself, how many times do u get see self cannibalism?

  • Interesting film for its genre

    darijakondra2016-02-23

I saw this film a couple of years ago at the Denver Film Festival, and I thought it was interesting, however at moments it did feel a bit unnecessarily gory. At times it just felt if it was meant to satisfy all the demographics, who might like the similar, yet different elements of this genre. Although I am a fan of low budget indi films, and even though the concept of this film was very interesting, the story however felt a little convoluted with unnecessary twists, that didn't really add to the actual quality of the film. The performance of the main two actresses Meggie Maddock and Ali Frances were well done, however, the other performances didn't seem to stand the same ground. Like for instance, the performance by Jake Make, who played the character of the doctor, somehow just felt dry and two dimensional, hence loosing believability that I think was crucial for such a character. Overall, for the genre this film is portraying, and the low budget it was made for, I believe this film stands its ground when it comes to its uniqueness.
