Exit 14 (2018) Reviews

  • Honestly worst movie I have seen this year

    james_shaw19902016-04-07

This is the first IMDb review I ever written and this movie was so bad it compelled me to warn people to not be fooled into watching this. The acting isn't the worst I have seen, they actually improve during the second act, as if they had acting lessons during the filming but the script and plot are some of the worst. It's like a movie that is self aware of how terrible it is yet still too proud to make fun of itself. If you do plan on seeing this, get ready to spend the first 45 minutes of this "horror" movie without so much as a jump scare, following the most obnoxious stereotypical douche-bag college kids do nothing but make you wish they would die sooner and even when they do, it doesn't feel satisfying. You know a horror movie is bad when they cant even make the death of these cartoonesque morons enjoyable. The only justifiable reason to see this movie is to have something to rant about and you will want to get this off your chest pretty quick like I have.

  • A far from scary exit

Was not expecting an awful lot from 'Exit 14', will admit that right off the bat. The concept did sound very derivative and schlocky, and because a lot of films seen recently blew their potential there was a lot of scepticism. Saw it anyway however because the cover was pretty eerie and there is an appreciation for the genre, plus an air of curiosity. Even for someone with low expectations, 'Exit 14' failed to deliver on almost all levels. It started off reasonably well, there was a slight eeriness to the opening. The best thing, or at least the least bad thing, about 'Exit 14' was the acting, it wasn't exceptional (though nobody embarrassed themselves) but considering what they had to work with, which was terrible and would have been beneath even the worst actors and actresses, it was better than average. As indicated, that the acting was not too bad is something of a miracle. Considering that they had characters so sketchily written, let alone developed, obnoxious and impossible to relate to, and really insipid and stilted dialogue that shouldn't have gone beyond the "coming up with ideas" stage. There is nothing tense, creepy or suspenseful, even fun or interesting. Just lots of predictability, lazy derivation (if it was paying homage to fellow horror films, there is nothing affectionate or clever here), really dull pacing and cheesiness. The ending is weird and barely comprehensible, one of the biggest head-scratchers for any recent film viewing, as well as feeling like it came from a different film tonally. 'Exit 14' looks very schlocky visually, while the direction lacks focus and the music has no atmosphere or anything memorable or fitting at all. In conclusion, have seen worse but a mess. 2/10 Bethany Cox

  • Nope

Just don't waste your time watching this movie. If I had to pick any positive, it's that this movie is pretty funny. It promises some form of horror story-line and fails to deliver on an epic scale. Even the music fails to be atmospheric, and most of it's "originality" comes from generic jump-scare effects easily found on YouTube. The acting is not the worst of all time, but it could have been so much better. The movie is full of cliché's and plot-lines that make no sense at all. It's so predictable, that it's just not worth the wait for any "scare". Even the ending makes absolutely no sense. I've seen some bad movies, but this one wins the cherry. Be warned, this movie is a complete waste of your time. Go watch Dawn of Justice. It's far better than this.

  • "There ain't no exit 14"

Nothing special here, two teen boy/girl couples have the car break down and they turn off and go to a convenience store. Creepy owner Tom Sizemore invites them to spend the night. As you've seen a gazillion of these before you know what's going to happen. Sizemore and John Schneider as one of the fathers are the names you know in the cast. Schneider looking very embarrassed and Sizemore hams it up. It's what you do, ham when you're in a turkey. Nothing new here, skip this one by.

The college students Laurie (Laura Flannery), her best friend Faith (Ashton Leigh), her boyfriend Mick (Jamie Nocher) and their friend Joey (Anthony Del Negro) head to California on vacation. They take the exit 14 out of the interstate and soon they realize that they are lost. However the car has a problem and stops, and they call Roy to tow the car to his mechanical shop. Roy offers his house for the group to spend the night and soon they realize that the exit 14 does not exist. The lame "Exit 14" is one of the worst movies ever made. The senseless story has a terrible screenplay and begins disclosing awful characters: Joey is annoying, silly and inopportune; Faith is promiscuous and stupid; Mick and Dad are uninteresting and Laurie and Roy are the only reasonable characters with potential, but are not developed. The cinematography, camera and lighting are amateurish. "Exit 14" is a forgettable film and a waste of time. My vote is two. Title (Brazil): "Saída para o Inferno" ("Exit to the Hell")
