The very hotel, where of her sister's assailant currently resides. Murder on her mind, she arrives under a false identity, a journalist for a travel magazine. She receives a hearty welcome from the man and his wife. Shortly into her stay, she corners the man alone, and has her chance to kill him, but her courage fails her. Changing strategy, she decides that stripping him from everything that matters; his family, and most importantly his social status is an even greater punishment. Weaving her plan slowly, like a lone cowboy she rides into town seeking her kind of justice, and when she rides back out, left behind is a destroyed man and a village in chaos and justice in her heart.

  • My Review Of "Revenge"

    ASouthernHorrorFan2018-08-30

"Revenge" is a steady, methodical character study, driven by cruelty and fueled by retribution. The story is a classic revenge thriller tale in that it focuses on one woman's journey to exact revenge. Kjersti Steinsbø's prose stays more within the drama and psychological methodology of the victim's motivatio, as opposed to traditional films focusing on graphic violence. "Revenge" works when connecting the viewer with a sympathetic perspective, but fails when approaching the thriller edge, needed to excite the story's more psychological criminality eluded to in the plot details. The film does manage to be an original approach to the revenge subgenre story. Instead of going for gore and gratuitous violence. Steinsbø chooses a more empathetic, dramatic approach, allowing for the viewer to be imaginative in interpreting the moments as they unfold. It proves well at giving the movie a more sophisticated look and feel. Unfortunately the volume of material presented isn't enough to maintain the initial level of suspense, and intrigue the the beginning builds. Overall "Revenge" is a delightful, captivating melodrama that tip-toes around rap-revenge tropes without getting dirty. Shot beautifully and told with heartfelt honesty. However it will only resonate with indie world cinema crowds, satisfied with drama framed by some of the world's prettiest scenery. Horror and traditional revenge thriller fans will find very little to sustain them during the film's running time.

  • Tense and realistic tale of retribution

Revenge (original Norwegian title Hevn) is a rape revenge flick based upon Ingvar Ambjørnsen-novel "Dukken i taket", and the debut feature of film maker Kjersti G. Steinsbø. Under false identity Rebekka takes in at an idyllic small country hotel by the Norwegian fjords. Saying she is a travel correspondent, she is taken in as a queen. but she has false pretentions. She is seeking revenge of her sister's rape back when she was thirteen years old. She is ready to ruin the perpetrators life. How far is she willing to go? The film has many strong points, not only the breath taking western Norwegian nature, but also the tension which builds up slowly. I liked it, still the film is afr from being a perfect revenge flick. Difficult to point out what's not making the mark, but if you are patient, you'll get your reward.
