Holiday Spin (2012) Reviews

  • The Karate Kid is miscast in this Holiday Film

    Christmas-Reviewer2016-11-02

BEWARE OF FALSE REVIEWS & REVIEWERS. SOME REVIEWERS HAVE ONLY ONE REVIEW TO THEIR NAME. NOW WHEN ITS A POSITIVE REVIEW THAT TELLS ME THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH THE FILM. IF ITS A NEGATIVE REVIEW THEN THEY MIGHT HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST THE FILM . NOW I HAVE REVIEWED OVER 200 HOLIDAY FILMS. I HAVE NO AGENDA. I AM HONEST! Starring Ralph Macchio. A former dance champion sidelined years ago by an injury enlists the help of his estranged son to prepare for the Holiday Spin, a ballroom dance contest held every Christmas Eve. This film is very predictable. Ralph Macchio is miscast. He doesn't come across as a former dancer when he dances. He comes across like a typical man that just took 1 dance class. He has no style or grace. Because he does look so young for his age he seems to be only a few years older than the actor the plays his son. The Dance scenes seldom come alive in this film. A film that is about dancing just needed someone that could of pulled the elements together. There is one dance scene that does work and that is worth watching. Just the rest of the film is not worth your time!

  • This movie to be added to my holiday "must see" list

    katitan2013-01-26

I saw this movie shortly before Christmas, and am planning to see it again if it is provided next season. It is unfortunate that people these days lack the patience to study characters, absorb the flow of a story. The classics of Shakespeare, Dickens, Bronte', even Mark Twain would no doubt cause great boredom and yawning. This story was 'natural' drama, paced just fine, illustrating the regrets of a father, learning to trust and love, followed by redemption. Acting was just fine, and I was impressed with Ruben's character. The dialogue kept it lively, was without any profanity, or nudity as I recall. It was a decent movie for a family, teen and older. Give it a try.

  • Holiday Spin was not a win

My family and I wait every year till the the parade of new Holiday Movies fill the air. And we watch almost all of them despite the protest of our kids. Last night my husband and I decided that we were going to watch Holiday Spin a decision that we both regret. For 2 hours I was Bored and annoyed forced to watch the missed attempts at drama and comedy. Left wondering where the cue cards were off screen due to the robotic performances wishing I could turn back to hands of time a regain that 2 hours. I do want to take the time to mention 2 actors performances first that would be Josh (Mackenzie Green) The last time I witnessed such acting it was during my daughters kindergarten play and Ruben (Ralph Macchio) your over acting was comical and unbelievable. I believe that you peaked when you Waxed on and Waxed off. To sum this up If you have 2 hours and you have to choose between This movie or having your finger nails removed by a pair of pliers choose the pliers..

  • Tried to have heart

I just couldn't justify going even a smidge over 6 stars and to be honest I considered going lower. There was some pretty good acting from some of the cast and I liked some of the directing, editing, choices. But the fatal flaw that made this so much less palatable was the lack of understanding and heart in the writing. It was just chock full of those pale reflections of good values and real heart that bear so little resemblance to the actual heart and soul that helps uplift people and guide people to wise and healthy choices that distract and disturb the viewer and lower the value of the movie which otherwise could have gotten a significantly higher rating. The bad guy can't be seen to be wrong for pressuring the girl and having zero clue how to value her and respect her because the good guy can't or won't do it either. They just both have typical coercive, manipulative, unkind and unfair words to her that if she doesn't want to gratify them physically hurt her for it and act like there is something wrong with her and her choices. The only advice she can get is from a friend who similarly thinks all guys are screwed up and she should just go for it with the guy who seems nicer and has done less of hurting her and proving his lack of respect or love. There is no adult in the film with any better decision making on such timing and depth of commitment for physical intimacy in the past or the present. So the whole thing was almost good except it was a train wreck of having to watch the realities of how bad so many young people have it in a culture that so often does not truly value women or family or human beings at all.
