Kim Possible (2019) Reviews

  • Why? Just....why?

    riamonique-725992019-02-26

Everything about this movie is cringe. Predictable plot, bad humor. It's just not Kim possible at all. Kim possible is an unrealistic cartoon that would be very difficult to make live action without ruining it. I can barely make it through the movie without turning it off. I know the rating is harsh but Kim possible was perfection and they took it and screwed it up. No. No. No.

  • Horrible Movie and Not for Obvious Reasons

    tsilovewebkinz2019-02-21

I was a HUGE fan of Kim Possible as a kid. I loved the show so much and was excited they were making a live action movie. Now I expected when I heard it was a DCOM that the acting would be bad for the most part and that the special effects would be poor (it's not a high budget movie). These aren't even my issues with the film. 1) Is this movie canon? So the movie takes place right before Kim enters high school and then follows her first days at school with Ron. In the TV show, the pilot begins with her already at high school. So technically it seems to take place before the series begins (a prequel) but that doesn't make sense because she befriends an evil robot who then joins her and Ron's crime fighting team and of course this character was NEVER in the series. So this movie does not fit into the existing timeline. It is not compatible with the series. 2) The other annoying thing is the movie is clearly supposed to take place now in 2019 rather than 2002-2007 when the series was created/existed. If this was a prequel, then characters should exist in a pre-Instagram, pre- internet memes, pre-smartphone world. The obnoxious references to these modern things is awful. One of my favorite things from the original series was Kim's communicator. It was a time before everyone had smartphones and it was basically a special smartphone. They felt the need to replace it with this weird projector Kim wears on her neck. WHY?!? 3) Kim's character is wrong. The Kim in the original series is clearly a very cool girl but she solves crime and happily hangs with a nerd to the frustration of Bonnie and the other cool cheerleaders. I loved that Kim was always super confident when it came to her academic, cheerleading, and crime-fighting abilities (just not with her ability to interact with boys). She was like a cool superhero yet a relatable teen who struggled with dating. In this movie she is CONSTANTLY doubting herself and crying. I just wanted to watch her kick-butt and exude her usual confidence in cheerleading and crime fighting. In this movie Kim is no longer the head cheerleader. In fact nobody cheerleads. They do soccer??? Why???? Kim being a part of the cheerleading squad was an important part of the show. It showed that Kim was cool yet different and her crimefighting skills made her a great cheerleader. 4) The addition of the new character is just awful. Adds nothing to the world of Kim Possible. Instead of wasting time with a new best friend character why wouldn't they portray Kim and Ron's will they won't they story?? It was an integral part of the show. 5) The ending makes no sense whatsoever. Once it is revealed the "best friend" was actually created as an evil robot and was evil the whole time, why would Kim say she was still her friend and still had some good in her? The robot never had any good in her. She was evil the moment she was introduced and if she is a robot then she should have no feelings unless she's supposed to be like Jenny from "My Life as a Teenage Robot". The fact Kim would consider risking her real best friend's life and her family's to save an evil robot is laughable. 5) Rufus was bought at a pet store. Not stolen from a lab. There were so many ways to go with the plot of this story and they just completely failed. It could have been a prequel about her life before high school. It could have been a new story with Draken that takes place in the middle of the series that we've never seen before (but takes place in 2002-2007 not 2019). It could have even been about their lives after high school in college. I also was disappointed how young the actress playing Kim looked. I know everyone in Kim Possible is supposed to be in high school, but the reality is the characters were all drawn/acted like people in their 20s. Kim was always a very adult looking teenager and this girl could have easily played a 6th grader.

  • Safe, yet messing with original property

    cameronparry-431322019-02-28

The original property of Kim Possible is sacred to most, due to its passion behind it. It's writing was enjoyable to both kids and adults alike. This only caters to the kids. It's very uninspired due to it being live action, which makes things that can happen only in animation, either not happen, or not look decent at all. In the original, Kim 'Possible' meant she could step up to the plate when danger came, even if it was stronger than herself. In this version, all she does is do flips, and when someone else can do a better midair tumble roll than her, she has a meltdown about it. That's immature and sends a dangerous message of egotism which really rubbed me the wrong way when that sub-message came about, before they hamfisted the message of friendship soon after. The writing is poor, and the plot is extremely safe for any toddler to follow. Yet for people who grew up with Kim Possible, and still revisits today to find enjoyment, this really tarnished the property. Show your kid the original animated series if you haven't, and save this for another day if you're extremely bored.

  • Did they forget the original was an action COMEDY?

    randy-778492019-02-18

I won't give a rundown of the plot because honestly who cares? The original show is freakin' awesome because it didn't have any filler. Even the filler episodes didn't have any filler. It was also an action comedy, and it was way the hell funnier than any Disney Channel show on the air at that time. It was increasingly surreal as it went along, as well. This TV movie was *all* filler, and it just wasn't funny. Casting: Kim was fine. Weird to see her without green eyes, but she's suitably acrobatic and perky and likeable, but man is she hampered by terrible dialog. Ron. Was. Awesome! Seriously, while he doesn't look much like the cartoon, he's got the shambling walk down, the mannerisms, and the voice is so good you'd think it was Will Friedle dubbing it. Unfortunately he's given nothing of any importance to do. He's just kind of there. He's the only one who managed to deliver any funny lines in a funny fashion, though. Wade is fine. "Athena" is a new character. She's fine. Since she's new we've got nothing to compare her to. She's Kim's new best friend, replacing Monique. I didn't dislike her, but the show is basically about a duo, and when they brought additional people along (Like Monique) it was basically to show how the team ONLY works if it's Ron and Kim. Like, no, seriously, one episode revolved around a government study to find out WHY it only worked with the two of them. "And the Mole Rat will be CG!" Rufus turned up to my surprise. He does nothing of any consequence, but he is voiced by Nancy Cartwright, who was his voice in the cartoon as well. Drakken was terrible. Like beyond terrible. Like I cringed every time he came on screen. For starters, he wasn't even blue! His sights were too low. He wasn't trying to take over Canada, or mind-control the world using shampoo, he just wanted to break Kim's spirit. Big whup. I feel like they didn't even tell the guy he was acting in a TV movie. I feel like they just found some stoned guy in an alleyway, told him, "You're a supervillian!" and he believed them. Shego doesn't work. Can't figure why, she didn't do anything wrong, but, eh. Barken was sick and wrong. Barken was voiced by Patrick Warburton in the cartoon, and he was designed to look sorta like Warburton as well. He should have been played by a live-action Patrick Warburton. "Maybe they couldn't afford him?" Of course they could afford him. he's a voice actor. He'll work for peanuts. Hell, as I'm typing this I've got him mopping out my garage. He wanted ten bucks, but I talked him down to $8.95. The inexplicable fight scene at the end decides to team up Kim....and her grandma....and her mom? Really? Her mom is a brain surgeon, not an action girl. Her grandmother *was* a spy, but long since retired, and she only shows up twice in the entire run of the show, mostly to complain about Kim's clothes. Anyway: lame. Just lame.

  • If I could rate it a zero I would

    carrington_traylor2019-02-24

This was a total waste of time. Honestly I wasn't expecting much but it was way worse that I expected I truly thought it would be at least average and it was far below it. As a person who still watches Disney this is one of the worse Disney originals ever especially if you grew up watching Kim possible. Overall it sucked. They changed everything.
