Dinkar Maruti Bhosale represents thousands of 'Marathis' who feel they have lost their identity in cosmopolitan Mumbai. Dinkar feels Mumbai is in Maharashtra but there is no Maharashtra left in Mumbai. He always complains about the lack of respect a Marathi receives in Mumbai, feels he is victimized everywhere because he is a Marathi, little realizing that he himself has brought this situation upon himself. Matters go from bad to worse and in a state of sheer frustration Dinkar gets up one day cursing himself for being born a Marathi. He feels his 500 ancestors must have committed a heinous crime for him to be born a Marathi. This outbust of Dinkar reaches Pratapgad and the spirit of Shivaji Maharaj is aroused. Dinkar has to now face a seething Shivaji Maharaj, who is furious at him. Shivaji Maharaj fires Dinkar for his Shallow thinking. Tells him he has to command respect, and not demand it. The movie is how one of the people belonging to Marathi population blames others from gujrat, UP, south and anybody not belonging to Marathi population still being a lot more successful by running hotels, being in politics, being in film industry and so on. The person played by Sachin Khedekar is tired and almost gives up. The insults from his work place, garment showroom, fish market is too much to handle. It is pictured so well, even I wept. His problems do not end there his son could not get into engineering due to lack of donation required and his daughter cannot get into film industry due to a Marathi name. When he almost gives up he is visited by Shivaji Maharaj. Maharaj visits him in same way Mahatma Gandhi visits Munna bhai in Lage Raho Munna Bhai. Maharaj lectures him that the reason for those problems is not his ancestry but they themselves. He explains they were not stopped by anyone for doing same work. He is also lectured that GHATI should be called as proudly as MARATHA. After that Sachin changes for good. He helps her daughter get into acting. He gets his living place along with his two neighbors to a good builder (not the one who wants them looted) to be developed for better. He becomes a public icon. He even lectures public what he has learned, when public starts to think of him negatively. I used to think violence against people not belonging to ancestry by the people belonging to ancestry was some kind of justified. Today I think violence of any kind is not justified and to avoid it so many other means could be established. This movie is how all of us come together. We all are maharashtrians. A must watch, especially if you are a maharashtrian.
