T.J. is an early 20s well-meaning street hustler simply trying to find his way. Disillusioned with conventional authority and employment methods, awash with drug money and nowhere to spend it, trouble was inevitable. When T.J. runs an errand for his boss he meets exotic dancer Christy at 'Sweaty Nights', a strip club owned by his boss and her boyfriend - local drug dealer "K". Things begin to unravel when T.J. is given a task to pick up and deliver some mysterious, bulky envelopes. As he genuinely tries to accomplish these tasks, he's quickly led astray through a series of strange, distracting and at times disturbing interactions with local underground street characters. When Christy gets fired for fighting with fellow exotic dancer Rita, who has been not-so-secretly sleeping with K, they team up and hit the road! Love Dark Art-house Films
Really liked this film. So non-formulaic, yet simple and enjoyable. Anyone know where to get the soundtrack? Road trip movie, kinda like Fear and Loathing in LV, but hipper, more realistic. Heard a few songs I just can't live without, was impressed with the production quality of the DVD as well, commentary version is hilarious. Serious movie folk might have a hard time with this art film, but normal people looking to enjoy watching a film and be entertained throughout should buy this DVD, you won't regret it. Recognize a few people from other movies, believe one won awards at Sundance. Well cast, well written, well produced, they should make more movies like this because I'd buy them.
The world needs more dark art-house movies like this
I really liked this movie, I'm shocked the budget was so low for such high quality. It's so colorful, looks so much better than other indies. I realize low budget movies can't and shouldn't really be compared to mega budget movies, but it's better than a lot of that garbage coming out of Hollywood at the moment. Those I've seen, this had a plot I never saw coming, twists and turns, very dreamlike. Highly recommended. I can see how people wouldn't be open to not having a movie force fed to them, leaving them open to determine what they think it means. Seems obvious some people wouldn't get it, so if you don't like indies, or dark art house films, then you probably won't get it, like Twin Peaks, and I really liked the music, even bought the soundtrack.
Fantastic Movie
Not a big budget release, but I am surprised at the quality. Can really tell the care and love that went into this production. Nowhere Nevada is a good movie because it seems very real, very gritty. I have never been to the US, so it's always interesting to see the differences in quality. Really like a couple of the songs as well, rest are growing on me. All I ever ask is to be entertained, which I was, although I have some questions, will need to watch a few times. Oh, put the kids to bed, it's not that bad, but it's definitely meant for adults, I would not be surprised if this caught on in a cult way, as it's far more entertaining than some that already have. Just my opinion.
Not terrible
This was an odd movie. There was really never anything in it to grab my attention and keep me watching. This is definitely not an "Unflinching expose of the underground music and drug scene in Northern Nevada" as the title implies. The acting was okay. Not Hollywood caliber, but better than some B movies I have seen. The plot of the movie is basically guy runs packages for strip club. Hooks up with weird girl drive into the middle of nowhere and girl vanishes in flash of light. Much of the dialog was pointless, and the plot would have worked great in a short but was boring in a full length movie. My takeaway from this was that the other people who reviewed this movie work for the company that made it. Look and you can see that all 6 have never written another review. If you want to watch a show for boobs this would be a good one it had lots. If you are looking for a riveting move that you will enjoy skip this one.
What a strange, awesome movie
Not sure exactly how to describe it, but I really enjoyed it. The music was great! Long live indie film, very different than the standard crap all over the place. Ballsy knowing most people wouldn't get it or like it or whatever. That's quite a back story, whoever made this did a wonderful tribute to Reno arts and music, I'm really impressed, seems like quite an undertaking. Good for you.
