  • A dance documentary

This documentary won the price "best documentary" in Portugal at the 11th film festival Caminhos Do Cinema Portugues in 2004. The film by Jorge Antonio tells the story about contemporary dance in Angola. The dance choreographer and ballerina Ana Clara Guerra Marques is the central figure and her work with and passion for contemporary dance is the main topic. The documentary takes the viewers on a historical and political journey that shows them how the contemporary dancing came to be. The dancing is great and we come close to the people behind it. I liked it for it's honesty when showing this. The use and combination of archive footage is also impressing. I think this film and Jorge Antonios work itself contribute to a greater and wider knowledge, not only about contemporary dancing in Angola, but also the culture in Angola. In this way it is a important documentary as well.
