Super Bowl LIII (2019) Reviews

  • Worst. Super Bowl. Ever.

The game itself was a dud. The halftime show was a bore. Even the commercials were uninteresting.

  • A surprisingly pretty awful event

I don't usually review Super Bowls for 2 reasons. One being that I don't watch that much football, and two being that I don't like criticizing events where athletes give it their all to be the best they can be, because they deserve all the praise for doing so. I can't even imagine being able to do even 20% of what they do, and I fully respect them for it. But, this year, I have to say something. As much as I don't watch football, I am, at least, excited for each Super Bowl, as it's always high stakes. This is the first time it was genuinely a chore to go through. There was so little action and so much disappointment all around. It's not that I'm angry about the Pats winning, but it's mostly how anticlimactic everything was. Also doesn't help that the halftime show was also severely disappointing. After the sad passing of Stephen Hillenburg, most were expecting a tribute to him with a cover of "Sweet Victory", and with millions who signed for it, it wasn't foreign to expect something like that. And while, at first, it seemed like it would happen, they just played the beginning to transition into a new age song. I wish I could be making this up, but it's honestly jarring and disrespectful to disregard the fans and Stephen Hillenburg by using that as a transition to a song nobody wanted over "Sweet Victory". And no, it never reached the heights that any good halftime show would, making the whole thing feel like a slap in the face. And after that, it's back to boring and uneventful football. After the Pats win (unsurprisingly, considering that it was against the Rams), the whole left me thinking "What the hell was that? Where was the fun?" Again, I fully respect all athletes, which is why I don't want to dog on any event they're in too hard, but this was definitely the most disappointing football game in a while, and I don't recommend anyone to check it out, as it was severely lackluster in the enjoyment category. Save your time and let's all hope that next year's won't be a surprisingly pretty awful event like this.

  • Snooze fest!

As a one-time Patriots fan, I can truthfully say that I have only watched two Super Bowls in my fifty-something years of life. Their debut in SB20, in which they lost to the Chicago Bears 45-10. And the over-hyped cure for insomnia that was SB53! Yeah, I know. Teams that are too evenly matched, defensively, will always result in a low-scoring game. But, restricted to a single-digit tie for three-and-a-half quarters?! Trust me, folks. I am not exaggerating when I say I found myself tuning in the SEC Channel re-runs of Arkansas vs. Georgia and Alabama vs. Missouri women's gymnastic meets with increasing frequency. And I found each of them twice as suspenseful. Heck! I was at the edge of my seat when The Crimson Tide and The Tigers, at the end of the first three rotations, alone, were almost tied at 148 points apiece! So, let me summarize by saying that if any Monday-morning quarterback dares tell me I don't know what I missed, I will unapologetically reply: "Oh, yes I do!" "Nothing much."

  • Hopefully next year's big game will be better than this piece of crap

This one should be deleted on my DVR as this game wasn't as exciting as past super bowls. The commercials, halftime, and presentation of the big game sucked. Even the show that premiered after the big game didn't pique my interest so i went to bed. Hopefully the next super bowl in Miami is a far better super bowl as the NFL celebrates its 100th season.

  • Ugh

I'm here after finding out what happened during the halftime of this Super Bowl. Why did they tease everyone with a few barely audible seconds of Sweet Victory from Spongebob and just play Sicko Mode instead? They could've made a tribute to the amazing Stephen Hillenburg and one of the most if not THE most well known Spongebob episode. What a disappointment...
