The Brittany Murphy Story (2014) Reviews
Wtf??
Before watching the movie I thought all the negative reviews were coming from disgruntled family, or super fans that wouldn't be happy with anything. Boy was I wrong! All the harsh comments were totally deserved. I won't stoop to the level of name calling, but I am empathetic toward those critics. It was a total casting catastrophe. A. Fuller was so far away from resembling Brittany Murphy that it wrecked the credibility of the rest of the movie. I would only recommend wasting the time to watch it if your curious to see how bad it is yourself. Don't don't don't take anything in the movie as factual, and pray that a true biopic is released as soon as possible. I don't know any of Britt's family or friends but I feel terrible that they have to see her defamed so horribly. R.I.P. Brittany Murphy
Oh My Lord!
I am a 68 year old Italian male, and I was a huge fan of Brittany Murphy. The first time I saw her was in "The Sidewalks of New York." It was a lovely New York City slice of life type story. I loved everyone in the movie, and I loved the story lines. Brittany, in my estimation, stole the show. She was so talented and so beautiful, yet had the look of the proverbial girl next door that you would love to hang out with and chew the fat. But I must say that I look more like Brittany Murphy than Amanda Fuller -- fat, untalented, with a double chin and baby fat that made her look bloated. That, and she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. What was Lifetime thinking? I usually love Lifetime movies. I love "chick flicks," so pardon me if I'm gay. I can understand that when portraying famous people, there is usually a stretch in finding someone with all the looks and qualities of the subject matter. But this girl looked and acted nothing like Brittany. Poor Brittany would turn over in her grave. Are all young, blonde, talented actresses dead or involved in other projects? I was a HUGE Brittany fan, and this is nothing more or less than a disgrace. I just can't understand this bomb. And Eric Petersen as her love interest? Did anyone else think he looked a lot like Miss Piggie?
22 Minutes I will never get back
I will say right up front, I only watched 22 minutes of this atrocity. I gave up when they got to the Alicia Silverstone "character". Seriously?! They couldn't find ONE SINGLE BLONDE ACTRESS to play the part? Instead, they appear to have grabbed some girl off the street and plopped a really, really, really bad blonde wig on her head. Did I mention how BAD the wig was. This movie is just a complete failure. Amanda Fuller sounded more like Tai from Clueless than Brittany Murphy. Frankly, the girl who played Morgan looks more like Brittany. Do yourself and your brain cells a favor and skip this steaming pile of garbage. I would have given it 0 stars if that was an option.
"Where Is This Going..."
"Where is this going..." was my initial thought about 30 minutes in. I like to preface by stating: I am a Brittany Murphy fan, and have 17 of her films on DVD; my favorites being "The Ramen Girl (2008)", "The Dead Girl (2006)", and "Don't Say a Word (2001)". I do not really care for Lifetime films, mainly because they usually over exaggerate the elements of the characters; whether they are based on real people, or not -- this film is no different. Everyone has seen this film before because it's the same as every other exposé on a celebrity's life in made-for-television productions. And, in that vein...there's no heart to this film. Whether it focuses on the minute details of Brittany Murphy's life -- the good/bad -- is irrelevant because, like most films of this accord, it primarily focuses on the tragedy of the person's life rather than on their life as a whole. It starts you off in that vein: "The mysterious death of Brittany Murphy" with a fading voice of "Was she poisoned?" Which, from then on, is the focus of her story; the tribulations in her life: she was the "fat" girl, she's attacked by paparazzi (yet the guardian angel throughout is her future husband as a photographer/paparazzi), everyone is out to ruin her, she's the poor little hurt girl, the best friend since childhood she may have to let go etc., Don't get me wrong -- it does show some good moments in her life but it's all mainly in the beginning, and the rest is just one huge drama after another. The music doesn't help. A cross between elevator music, and what you'd hear in a lackluster bar/pub. I did come in with low expectations based on past experience in watching these types of films; and perhaps that's a detractor, and then again, perhaps not because the further it got towards the ending the evermore it got over-the-top dramatic. Some lives are dramatic but it seems with these "Hallmark" type films -- that's all they ever are; and that's fantasy. 2/10
A Clueless Movie Biography
Perky student Amanda Fuller (as Brittany Murphy) acts poorly in a high school stage show. Nevertheless, she is seen by a TV ad producer and quickly becomes successful making commercials - they say it's because she looks average. Hoping to become a real actress, Ms. Fuller demands single mom Sherilyn Fenn (as Sharon) move from New Jersey to Los Angeles, CA. Very quickly, Fuller's "Brittney" lands a guest-starring role on "Murphy Brown" - then, she is off and running. Now a big TV star, "Brittney" wants to be in films. So, she becomes a sensation in "Clueless". But all is not well. Fuller's "Brittney" receives a smile from a young model-type hunk on the set, but he calls her a "chunky monkey." In spite of her pounds, Fuller lands in bed with hunky Adam Hagenbuch (as Ashton Kutcher)... Photographers swarm around "Brittney". One of them tells her the paparazzi are not real friends - that's quite a revelation... The "Clueless" star eventually learns photographer Eric Petersen (as Simon Monjack) was correct. Over the years, they become chunky chums. All of it ends up in the teaser scene we see opening this movie. We're told this TV and film star was possibly poisoned. Yet, during the running time, there is no poisoning. That's fine, but don't suggest it again in the closing. One of the big problems with this biography - and there are many - it that the star is the most uninteresting character in the drama. Her mother and "Simon" are more interesting. Director Joe Menendez and his crew occasionally move the players around well, but it's all episodic - there is no connecting tissue. The star's rise seems to happen overnight, and no particular skills are shown. We are left to wonder why this person warranted a movie at all. ** The Brittany Murphy Story (9/6/14) Joe Menendez ~ Amanda Fuller, Sherilyn Fenn, Eric Petersen, Adam Hagenbuch
