  • Intriguing story where the mysterious organization of the Freemasons is almost a character

    onesgallery2013-12-20

The Freemason is a film that surpassed my expectations. I had become accustomed to see Freemasonry mentioned or alluded to in dialogs and film plots before, but this time Freemasonry plays a leading role. I have the utmost respect for the timeless and mysterious fraternity of Freemasonry, which makes me critical of any time it is portrayed in films and documentary. However, I was pleasantly surprised and delighted that Freemasonry was portrayed with such eloquence and respect. The film begins with a murder mystery, which initially caught my attention, but the subsequent twists and turns kept me guessing throughout the entire film. I am somewhat knowledgeable about Freemasonry and I greatly appreciated that the scenes including "Masonic Ceremonies" revealed enough to peek someones interest, yet respected the privacy and discretion of the organization by not revealing too much. Overall, it was a very enjoyable film and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery or suspense film.

First of all....I really wish there was a rating of zero, or even negative numbers because if any movie deserved a rating of negative stars, its this one. I was at a Comic Con and was sold a copy of this movie by the one of the principal actors. (apologies to Alexander Hamilton, I miss ya dude...sorry I wasted ya.) It is absolutely hilarious to read some of the reviews on here, suspend disbelief and pretend that those who apparently "loved" the film or "wanted more" because the movie was too short(my personal favorite has to be that it "exceeded my expectations"...might want to set your sites a little higher next time, bud) weren't being paid off for their time to write this tripe to help with sales or con the unsuspecting into seeing it. Misery loves company. This is one of those films where you will find yourself nudging the person next to you on the couch and saying "hey, wake up...something boring is happening." Where to start....the lead actor is made out to be a poor man's Val Kilmer (in his thinner days),and is just irresistible to the opposite sex for no apparent reason, ****ATTENTION**** here's your spoiler...the main female character is motivated to just jump in the sack for a romp with Iceman because the dude has his shirt off, laying in bed after suffering an injury and hell, nothing else to do so you might as well go for it....characters are introduced and then just disappear (first female you see in the movie...why was she necessary to the story? what was her relationship to the main character, friend, friend with benefits, agent, procurer?...no worries, she's never heard from again.) Hard to imagine this film getting a passing grade as a film school project, let alone a release intended for theaters. Edward D. Wood it ain't, but that's as high as the praise goes. Low production values, dialogue to set up actions by the principals that make as much sense as it does in a porn movie to motivate the character, synthetic actors, and there you have it. If you could dry this out and grind it into a fine powder, this steaming pile could fertilize your lawn. Don't waste your money, and keep 95 minutes of your life that could be put to productive use...unless you have insomnia or are a masochist. You can't help but feel stupider for having been involved.

My wife and I saw the synopsis online and thought we'd give this one a chance. We should have done some more homework! Folks, this one's a real stinker! First, the production value is third rate at best. It looks as if it was filmed with a very cheap camera on very cheap film. There are also shots of buildings (inside and out) that don't do anything to tell the story or set the mood. Second, the acting....Oh the acting! It's clear from the start that each and every actor in this movie needs to finish acting school BEFORE trying to act in a feature film! They have years to go before they will be even adequate. I expected a bit better of a performance from Sean Astin but alas, it wasn't meant to be. He was a crying emotional mess of a hobbit and that's where it should have ended. Third, the dialog was the worst I've seen in a long time. And I just watched Sharknado! Please don't see this movie! You will only give encouragement to everyone involved in it!

  • Give It A Miss

I purchased this DVD mainly because I was curious, not about Freemasonry, but how it would be portrayed. To say I was disappointed puts it mildly. This film is badly made, badly acted and the soundtrack (music) is terrible. The story line is poor and disjointed. A good film about or involving Freemasonry is long overdue and I had hoped that this film, with all it's hype, might just be it, but I was wrong. Personally I think they tried to capitalize on the word 'Freemasonry' and failed. If I could get my money back I would.

  • Finally a good movie with Freemasonry in it!

Freemasonry in the movies is a rare and treasured thing. As a member of the fraternity, I was worried about this film divulging too much. This was not the case. It is a perfect blend of fact and fiction to bring a great story to life. This movie has suspense, mystery intrigue and even some comedy. I watched the film with my wife and she liked it as well. This movie is definitely worth seeing. Sean Astin plays a detective trying to solve a murder. Who did it? The Freemasons? I can't tell you, but what I can say is it will keep you guessing. Get ready for a kick @$$ ending!
