The Net 2.0 (2006) Reviews

  • The Winklers have it.

I am not a whiner or complainer, but this movie creates a massive negative pressure. The Net 2.0 was released on DVD on Tuesday, I watched it on Wednesday and there is only one other comment on IMDb as I write this. I suppose it is safe to say that this production went directly to video and skipped the movie houses. Also it did not spark a lot of interest in the constituency of IMDb. I know why. Irwin Winkler is the producer of this movie and his son, Charles Winkler, is the director. Papa Winkler has produced such movies as "They Shoot Horses Don't They", the Rocky movies, "The Net", "The Juror", "Goodfellas", and "De-Lovely". He was the director of the original "The Net". Charles on the other hand has directed several TV movies, a Baywatch Episode, and a few movies that I have never heard of. This is a major example as to why nepotism can be costly. As far as I can tell the Winkler connection is the only connection of "The Net" to its purported sequel. There is no comparing them. Indeed a woman looses her identity in both movies but storyline and execution make them two entirely different items. The story is not real credible and the way it unfolds is herky-jerky there are many points at which the viewer is invited to yawn. The story could have worked if it was done differently. This was shot in Turkey and had many Turkish actors. I thought they actually added more spice than the American cast. Sebnem Dönmez, the Interpol agent, and Güven Kirac, who played Osman, were fresh faces and were enjoyable. I really think this could have been improved with a better presentation, I would recommend that you watch this on a very slow day when you have nothing else to do.

  • Awful, awful movie.

Seemingly inspired by Paul Greengrass' schizophrenic cinematography in The Bourne Supremacy, this movie tries, and fails, to make a mountain out of a molehill. Shaking a camera, indiscriminately stopping for a few frames, then speeding up or slowing down doth not an exciting film make. Worse still, Nikki Deloach shouldn't be trusted to carry a bag of groceries, let alone an entire movie. Istanbul is a beautiful location but it seemed grossly underutilized in this movie. And the music director needs to get back on his medication. I fail to see why this even carries the name of it's predecessor. It has no correlation to Angela Bennett. Nor to the Pretorians. Nor to any element in the first film whatsoever. Avoid this movie at all costs.

  • This movie blows

If you stuck a gun to this video and pulled the trigger you'd be doing this movie justice! It's the same story only tweaked a bit. Don't get me wrong the acting was great. The scenery was great! It's the story that stunk! And what's up with all that herky jerky stop action. They'd freeze the film at stupid points. All it was missing was the cheesy music that makes you go, "oh no, now what?". Not to mention you could see what was going to happen. The main character is "the dumbest smart person". The character isn't even that smart either. She does a few things that are smart but for the most part she's quit dumb. Saddest part of this film is the end! They leave it open for another sequel. God please don't let them do that!

  • Not as bad as I thought..

When I purchased The NET & "Net 2.0" DVD-box I tought that I'm buying one mediocre movie (1), and one sh*tty movie: "2.0". But thanks to heavens that also "2.0" was better than advertised. After watching the movie, it was quite entertaining. Nice acting and nice scenery, Of course the theme of the movie was little bit repeating from the original "The Net", but then again.. its permitted, it's "2.0".. and you cant make sequel without repeating the theme of identify theft on sequel, can you? In the end, I Think that this movie is slightly better than first one (not lots of, but barely, see it yourself). Because it's more fresher than 1995 movie. 6/10, don't judge the book by it's covers.

  • A total disappointment

This was like The Net, but with no tech, and a crappier story line. Threw out the whole movie you are left asking "why do I care". This was a grasp at the cult fallowing that The Net had, and it could have failed worse. The only upside (i saw that sarcastically) to this movie was that you always knew what was going to happen next. You will sit there waiting for the twist that never comes. I loved The Net, and even though my friends told me this movie was no good, I saw it. Now I am left wishing for that hour and half of my life back (and the 5 bucks I spent renting it). It is movies like this that helps me understand why people download movies they have not heard of.
