They Call Me Superseven (2016) Reviews

  • The series, now a feature

    joehollywoodIV2015-01-24

So, the filmmakers quite cleverly pulled a "Man From U.N.C.L.E.". Back in the day, "Man From U.N.C.L.E." producers took some of their two part episodes, re cut them and released them in theaters as feature films. Here, the Superseven gang, re edited episodes from season one of the series "Adventures Of Superseven" into the feature length "They Call Me Superseven". You get an 85 minute version of the 15 episodes of the first season, cut together to give the viewer a complete story arc. All of the elements and key scenes are in place. The cast is superb, Jerry Kokich IS "Superseven", with all that great Adam West delivery. Olivia Dunkley smolders as "Sandra West", one of the all time great, sexiest killing machines (With a hair trigger temper and slightly warped moral compass!). Anne Leighton just shines as the adorably naive mechanical genius "Sparky" (Who is in love with Superseven and fantasizes about being a spy and murdering Sandra West!). Fans of the series will miss some of the closing credit goofs and additional scenes, but the series is the series and the movie is the movie! It's all good, all fun and a fond throwback to the spy craze of the 1960's!

  • Great little 60's spy spoof

    josephyoungiv2016-03-02

This funny, action packed, low budget cheese fest is clearly a homage and love letter to the spy shows and movies of the 1960's. The film is influenced and pays homage to such things as James Bond, Matt Helm, Flint, Eurospy movies, "Get Smart", "The Avengers", "Man From UNCLE", "Mission: Impossible", masked wrestling movies, the Kaiju genre and much more. A 60's spy-geek junkie's dream series. Stunts, fights, action, sexy women, gadgets and a hefty body count for a comedy! The entire cast is wonderful, especially Jerry Kokich as Superseven, Olivia Dunkley as Sandra West (Politically incorrect and doing all those things you wish Emma Peel would do, if she weren't so British and nice!) and Anne Leighton as the ditsy mechanical genius, Seriously, with soooo much garbage on TV, this really needs to be a TV series and soon!

  • Super7 scores a 10! (contains a minor spoiler)

Miss this at your peril! It's a cross between the 60's Man from Uncle and Batman, with huge dollops of humour, blatant spoofing and glamorous sexy spies. One of the most enjoyable and funniest things I have seen in a long, long time. Pure escapist entertainment. My personal favourite is a send-up of the excellent 'The Prisoner' from the late 60's, the only thing it is missing is Patrick McGoohan. Scott Rhodes, with his years of experience in movies, television and music-video making, really pulls out all the stops behind the scenes and gives the whole production a glossy, expensive feel, which is amazing considering the limited budget this series was shot on. If this isn't in your DVD collection, then you haven't lived.

  • An unexpected gem

    mugsymahoney2016-03-02

A friend turned me on to the original series on YouTube and I was hooked immediately! I started with episode 10 and then binge watched the first nine before I went on to episode 11. Being a spy fan, I'm glad I discovered this gem of a series. It has a lot of in jokes and homages that fans of my generation immediately get. Lots of nods to things like "The Prisoner", "Mission: Impossible", "The Avengers", :Get Smart", Bond and so on. I love the witty, dark humored writing and the cast is perfect, especially Jerry Kokich, channeling Adam West as "Superseven" and Olivia Dunkley as the sexy, ass kicking "Sandra West"( Who is the grand daughter of Honey West and great-great grand daughter of James West!). I also like the fact that they edited the first season into this feature. Adding scenes and adding a hot new soundtrack, much like they did when they edited "episodes of "The Man From UNCLE" into feature movies. It is a must see for fans of the genre and it will bring back some fond memories.

  • Banes and red tights

I caught "Adventures Of Superseven" while channel surfing on YouTube and immediately fell in love with the series. I love the spy genre, especially Bond, Flint and the Matt Helm movies and this series is a tongue in cheek spoof of all of those great and not so great spy shows and movies. Jerry Kokich is great as the deadpan hero "Superseven", who casually walks around in red tights and a mask and no one seems to care or notice. I am really in love with the ladies though. Olivia Dunkley as the sultry, trigger happy "Sandra West" (Great, great Grand daughter of James West from "Wild, Wild West"), Anne Leghton as the ditzy, adorable mechanical genius "Sparky" and Michelle Gonzalez as the gymnastic villainess "Thunderpussy" (It's that kind of show!). I get all of the jokes and obscure references and the dark humor is my cup of tea. I also love the soundtrack, which is a cross between Tangerine Dream and 60's lounge and surf guitar. The movie is made up from Season One episodes and is cut together in a way that makes sense and still gives you the flavor and quirkiness of the series! It's a very clever series with great writing, characters, p missed. Even if you are not familiar with it, this is still a fun ride with lots of pretty babes running around and shooting people! I caught the movie on Amazon last week.
