Three Days to Vegas (2007) Reviews

  • Shameful waste of talent.....

If you have beloved actors, Peter Falk, Rip Torn, George Segal, and Bill Cobbs, you don't need Billy Burke, Coolio, or any other distractions. Massive talent is totally wasted in "Three Days to Vegas", with the blame falling squarely on the script. My neighbor's vacation films are about as interesting as this misguided road movie. If you want to see how to utilize a veteran cast with a good script, check out "The Crew". There really are no redeeming factors here, and watching these wonderful actors struggling with such weak material is a crime. I wanted to like it, but the shallow script cheats the audience, by essentially giving the actors nothing to work with. - MERK

Four old guys hire a bus to go and save one of their daughters from getting married to the wrong guy in Vegas and on the way they prove they can still party-hearty. The Bucket List it ain't - but with the likes of Rip Torn, George Segal, Peter Falk, and the wonderful Bill Cobbs it is what it is: a no-brain required college road trip but instead of the 20 year old it's the 70 year olds. The plot about the marriage is paper thin, and all too silly, as is how they lose their bus driver and that subsequent story line, but overall it's kind of fun. Not sure who this was aimed at: old guys, young guys, it ain't family viewing, but I was surprised that I did enjoy most of it: the charm of the group shines through. Watchable when you don't need to think and just want to relax...

  • More lack of focus than bad movie.

I kind of liked it, expected a lot more though from the veteran actors though. Denis Farina would have rounded this movie up nicely if they could have gotten him for it. The premise of the movie kind of kills it, it should have been a much smaller subplot, I think that most are fans of the familiar older actors and could have care less and done without the rapper, marriage, homo Thelma & Louis, and other distracting subplots. These seemed like deliberate filler more than plot vehicles. The "Thelma and Louis" sub plot did have it moments, but it needed a better tie in to the main plot. These divergent tangents fragmented the movie a bit much and reminded me more of a sequence of skits than a cohesive story experience.

  • 4 Geriatrics, Countless Naked Girls, and Huge Bilge in Between !

The worst movie for Peter Falk yet. Or rather the worst movie for anyone participated in ! I couldn't believe how these fine actors made such a disgrace to their names, I couldn't believe this movie's amount of silliness, and I couldn't believe the clumsy way it dealt with its treasures! Originally the idea of 4 old men on a mission, on the road, is fabulous. But this script along with this directing not only wasted it all, but presented what's not even convincing to follow. The characters themselves are boring; Rip Torn is drunken, George Segal is windbag, Bill Cobbs is Hmmm.. the sax player !, and Peter Falk is the father of the bride.. That's – sorrowfully - it ! Incredibly it didn't give us more, or utilize that itself to make comedy. The situations are so unfunny. It got one of the driest sense of humor I've ever seen, and you'd wonder all along "Comedy ? what Comedy ?". There is a snapshot in which we witness the quartet just laughing in the bus, you've got to ask yourself "what did they laugh about ?!" simply the sluggish script didn't fatigue itself to invent a good joke to be said, or to relate us to these guys' talking, or to make memorable anything out of them in the first place ! Director (Mharlie Picerni), who's originally a stunt man since the early 1960s, thought mistakenly that he's making a rap video clip ! So, in great loyalty, he shot the whole thing with snapshots, dashing girls in bikinis, and an ACTUAL rap singing ! Truly the movie doesn't tire out of cramming naked girls every 5 minutes on the screen till that became the point !! By the way, haven't occurred to you the question about how this rapper is happily married with kids while he's living among bimbos all the time ?! Or if that wretch bum (Billy Burke) is that genius in the field of recording (or rather sound engineering) why he didn't work earlier ?! Or how this very character "planed the whole thing" as Falk says discovering at the end ?!! Or how silly the homo Thelma & Louis's subplot - and actors - seemed, how easy everything had been solved with the wealth of the rapper nephew, and how they got the nerve to release THIS cinematically ? I have no idea ! I felt real anger with it because I adore these old-buddy flicks. I pursue this kind and enjoy its difference. I have a list of them, and it's not long as basically they're rare to make. So with mostly 4 elderly men in action you'd recall (The Wild Geese - 1978), (The Sea Wolves - 1980), (Ghost Story - 1981), then the next wave (The Crew - 2000), (Space Cowboys - 2000), or even a girlie version like the made for TV (These Old Broads - 2001). Whatever the genres, the stars, or the quality.. (Three Days to Vegas) will be in the bottom of this list without one iota of doubt. I'm mad at Peter Falk. Although he's one of my favorites, and it has a great deal of vitality, so boldness, to take the lead of a movie at the age of 80 (yes, he was 80-year-old at the moment !), but he looked like an idiot for most of the time, missing his old wittiness, longing for the chance – any chance - to star a movie at that age where he really does nothing but partying all the time, being amongst gratuitously scantily-clad extra girls ! As if he assures a point of view said by his character in one scene about George Segal's manners with the strippers (he could do this, or he could be dead out of oldness !). Yet to tell you the truth, nothing was older, or lazier, than this movie !

  • Like 'Wild Hogs,' only older and less interesting.

After a father (Peter Falk, 'Columbo') finds out his daughter (Nancy Young) is marrying a man (Chris Diamantopoulos) he doesn't think is right for her, he gathers his friends (Rip Torn, George Segal, and Bill Cobbs) and his daughter's ex-boyfriend (Billy Burke) in a party bus and heads for Vegas to stop the wedding. Along the way, the group hits Miami for some Salsa and N'Orleans to meet Marvin's (Cobb) rap-star nephew (played by Coolio). From there, the gang is hooked up with a private jet for Vegas. Will they make it on time? Will it matter? I'll start by saying that 'Three Days to Vegas' is not an unenjoyable film, and if you're a fan of the cast, you might enjoy it. Peter Falk, though his peak was before I was even born, has always been one of my favourite actors. The main cast (read as 'older' cast) all did great jobs, but the sub-plot stars (like the robbers) and Flow (Coolio) weren't very good at all. Speaking of robbers, what was the point of including that? It wasn't necessary and was just plain stupid. But, hey, I had fun and the cast seemed to as well. Especially Rip Torn in Sapphire. Final verdict: 5.5/10. Nothing special, but not a regrettable watch.
