U.F.Oh Yeah (2015) Reviews

  • A visually comedic masterpiece

    aminsuwedi2015-04-21

Ryan Connolly has been my mentor for over a year and half. I had not known him earlier but when I learnt about his works I watched all episodes of his very educational and fun-to-watch Film Riot series. I watched all his works more than once and to see this one, even greater than the ones before is a great example that with effort, love, passion and a good heart dreams are achievable. The first thing I admired about the film is the cinematography. Ryan Booth did a great job in using the visuals, color & color temperature, movement and the like to help tell the story. Put this together with the great story and direction from Ryan Connolly brings out not only a good comedy short film but also a great visual piece as well. The second thing I loved about the film was the acting. We've seen Josh from the first episode paving his skills in the world of performance. We've watched him in comedy, action, thriller and he's grown in each step. This film being a proof of the great development. The story is great, the suspense is the right amount and the turn point is unexpected but great in the style it was crafted on. U.F.OH Yeah is definitely a film to watch especially when one wants to understand the growth of the indie film making society, the growth of Film Riot.

  • Why all the hype over a skit.. not a story?

    connorlanoie2015-05-12

I loved Film Riot years ago, and I really enjoyed the other shorts they produced. To me, this short was nothing. This reminded me of a skit that would be made by a SNL short director, however the film lacked the comedic value. I know the gargantuan Film Riot fan-base will come at me for this, but quite frankly I am more than OKAY with that. I know that film riot is just trying to utilize all the new gear and visual effects that they did not have access to before, but maybe I just miss the old film riot. For a positive note, the film was visually appealing. The cinematography was definitely the only plus I saw. I felt the storytelling was off.. Within five minutes Ryan didn't really encapsulate me, nor did he impress me, and nor did I find the story even worth my time..As of now, I am not pleased with how this short came out. Bark at me all you want.

  • Creative, Witty and Comical

I've been watching Film Riot since 2009 and it is a joy to see U.FOh Yeah showcase as amongst their best work. The storytelling and cinematography are well crafted and Josh's performance was stellar. Moreover, the lighting and sound were exceptional and the VFX was spot on. Watching a dynamic film within the indie short genre makes me happy to see what talent, dedication and hard work can do. The indie world is giving the studios a run for their money and I see it as a wonderful time to be a filmmaker. For my next film, Josh pack your bags and head out to sunny Cali....I have a role for you!

  • Doesn't waste a second of your time.

Doing a short doesn't mean short on talent, expense or lack of experience. Every camera movement and second of audio in this short adds to the experience, and any length of time reviewing it would be better spent just watching the video..... Lots of technical achievements packed into so short a time! The biggest let down of course, is so short of a film, it leaves you just wanting to see a whole series... to know more about the character. While only having a few moments with him, They did an amazing job at conveying the character's past, present, and desires that builds that connection with the viewers.

  • One joke not enough for 5 minutes

    Horst_In_Translation2015-10-23

"U.F.Oh Yeah" is the newest work by renowned short film director Ryan Connolly. It runs for 5 minutes and stars his brother Josh as the only actor in the film. As you may have guessed from the title, it is a mix of comedy and science fiction. A fat guy sees a UFO coming down near his place and he goes to welcome the guys. But the encounter does not go exactly as planned. The film is really about this encounter and the comedic moment there. Without this scene, it probably would not even deserve 4 stars. Unfortunately the production values are low and I am surprised Connolly's films have such a positive reception as I hardly see anything special in them. The biggest problem here is that the makeup work is really not good at all. It's obvious that he is wearing a fat suit and this hurts the film even more as his weight is a core plot point. Not a good outcome. Not recommended.
