Simple what-you-guess-it-is-is-also-what-you-get film
Quite unexpectedly a semi-delightful film. Stringently directed by Hannes Holm, helmer of Swedish films often honed-in on mid-life crises, this is more of the same. Starring Martina Haag, also script-writer and the author of the book that this film is based upon, who plays a single woman who desperately wants to act that she sends her CV everywhere and lies to get her dream job at Dramaten in Stockholm, where Ingmar Bergman is set to direct. At the same time, she gets romantically entangled with another actor, tries to gain acrobatic skills and is flustered by her best friend's seemingly perfect family life. All in all a little constrained due to timing problems but kind of sweet, mostly thanks to the direction and Haag's facial expressions, which is where her acting strengths lie. Nice finish included.
European Light Comedy with Style
The chaotic protagonist Bella - an actress at heart age of 20 in the body of a 40-year woman - stumbles literally, through life, or from casting to casting. She envies her best friend who has a glittering career, the perfect husband and an adorable child until one day the Royal Theatre calls. Bella lied in her CV about her acrobatic skills, but this is why the Royal Theatre wants her to play a leading role in the new Ingmar Bergmann production. And beside all her professional problems there is also this little thing called love... Some critics say the movie is like Bridget Jones in Swedish and they're right. But still it has its own style. Director Hannes Holm created Sweden's own version of Miss Jones and the character is working very well. She is surprising, funny, brave and crazy at the same time and this is why the audience loves Bella. If you're looking for an interesting story with funny scenes, charming actors and nice shots from Sweden and Austria you shouldn't miss it.
