West of Redemption (2015) Reviews
Impressed, loved it.
This is one of the 8 (or 9?) films that we managed to catch at the Eugene International Film Festival last weekend and it's still haunting me (in a great way) days later. It's rare that a film completely outsmarts me, but this one did and I loved it for that. I was very pleased to see it win as well, it totally deserved it. It's a welcome change of pace to see something that I didn't feel I'd seen a thousand times before. Beautifully directed and beautifully filmed with great acting, characters and story. I'm very much looking forward to seeing this again.
Brooding, atmospheric mystery/thriller set in Eastern Washington
This modest but powerful film explores the intricacies and ramifications of relationships, in particular a complicated triangle of three individuals, set in the bleak farmland of Eastern Washington. It's as if Ingmar Bergman met Hud. The performances of the protagonists will be enough to captivate you, but the unfolding of the "backstory" will enthrall you. The cinematography is breathtaking, with subtlety of color and variation in camera angles keeping the viewer a bit off balance. The setting is in fact a character in the film. The place begins to affect you in clever ways.
Love triangle with a haunting twist
This is a lovely film with beautiful cinematography. Mariana Klaveno, Billy Zane, and Kevin Alejandro give moving performances that make the ending all the more heartbreaking. I look forward to watching more movies from Cornelia Duryée and Larry Estes.
